Danelectro Fifty Niner Electric Guitar Gold Top

This Danelectro Fifty Niner DC is a semi-hollow body electric guitar having a double cutaway "shorthorn body" shape and vintage "lipstick" pickups. This Fifty Niner differs in appearance to the stock Danelectro'59 models by having specifically a recessed bridge, Rosewood fingerboard, bound F-hole and - to enhance its look - the usual sweeping plastic pickguard is gone! With both pickups selected, they provide great sound presence, being wired in "series". The pickups themselves are described by Danelectro as accurate reproductions of the originals, using Alnico 6 magnets. The chrome covers are made from 80/20 brass zinc, akin to the lipstick tubes Danelectro bought originally from the Max Factor cosmetics factory.

The neck is a comfortable "C" and should accommodate most players' needs. The Rosewood fingerboard with standard 14" radius allows for fast and expressive playing and with a scale length of 25" has become an acceptable alternative to the more common lengths of 24.75" and 25.50".

Strings of a heavier gauge might better suit the tone of this instrument - as it is, the guitar is supplied with a stock set of 9's. The wraparound bridge is recessed into the body to allow for low action setups and with individual saddle adjustment, intonation issues should not be a problem. The guitar is lightweight and very much its own thing, so won't complete with other brands that have signature specs and sounds. The body colours are easy on the eye, with a subdued gold top, cream body and F-hole bindings and a solid dark chocolate body and neck finish that appear faithful to its retro profile.
